Asset Name: The Magic Castle

Asset Description:

An eerie empty arcade, the building designed like an old castle, somewhat out of place in Ellie and Joel’s mid-western road trip to Kansas City. It’s situated next to a mini-golf course and a go-cart track, all rusted and worn from years of abandonment. The park closed on Outbreak Day, September 23rd 2013, and consequently, old Halloween themed decorations still litter the pathways, and creepy clown statues stare with wide, bulging eyes. The park is closed in by a chain link fence, a fence that has long since been torn down and destroyed in places. It seems to be free from the infected – there are no uninfected quarantine zones for many miles.

Joel wonders if they can find gas somewhere in the park – perhaps in the go-cart track. As Ellie and Joel pass a decaying concessions booth, Ellie imagines what it would have been like to grow up as a normal kid in normal times. Joel helps bring Ellie’s musings to life when he pushes her in a squeaking go-cart around the track. Little do Joel and Ellie know, there are late-stage infected – bloaters – that have been laying in stasis, who are attracted to the sounds of the go-cart and Ellie’s delighted shrieks.
